Foster care

Childkind’s foster care program is grounded in the recognition that being a foster parent is a calling and that the placement agency must do everything it can to support those families who open their homes to children in state custody.

Service includes:

Medically fragile foster care

Our Medically fragile foster care program provides temporary to long-term placement of children with medical complexity or developmental disabilities.

Service includes:

  • Easy to reach case managers with low case loads

  • Staff clinical consultation when needed
  • Family service coordinator
  • Respite

Treatment foster care

Childkind’s Treatment Foster Care service is for children with behavioral and developmental challenges in foster care, especially those at risk for or who have experienced multiple placement disruptions.

Service includes:

  • Multidisciplinary team approach – each placement supported by a social worker, a behavioral support specialist and clinician.
  • Regular screening for maladaptive behavior problems and post-traumatic stress symptoms.
  • Feedback loops between the care team and medical/therapeutic clinicians as well as with psychiatrists or psychologists who have provided a diagnosis.
  • Evidence-based foster parent training (Together Facing the Challenge)
  • Evidence-based therapeutic assessments and interventions.
  • Respite

Community based services

Kinship care

Kinship care refers to the care of children by relative or close family friends. Relatives are often a preferred placement for children who can no longer live with their birth parents, particularly those who are involved with the child welfare system. Kinship placements can help to minimize the trauma of family separation.

Home based services

Childkind’s Home Based Services and its “Take Charge! Medically-Based Parenting” is designed for parents and caregivers of children with complex medical and developmental diagnoses. Participation in Take Charge! can lead to long-term parenting success and family sustainability.
