If you are considering become a foster or resource parent we would love to hear from you! The dates for our next information sessions can be found on our Training Calendar.
Who are the Foster or Resource parents who work with Childkind?
Single or married, working or retired, our foster and resource parents are unique individuals willing to offer their homes, commitment, and love for the benefit of a child with medical or developmental disabilities.
The children with whom we work have many different degrees of care requirements. We have found that the most critical children do best with foster or resource parents previously or currently in the healthcare field. They might be a registered nurse, therapist, doctor, or home healthcare provider. Also, we have had the pleasure of working with parents of children with special needs. They have made ideal foster parents too. Other people become respite foster parents and grow into becoming full-time foster or resource parents.
Certain, every person who is interested in fostering is considered. A medical background helps, but it is not the determining factor for becoming a foster or resource parent with Childkind.
What is our commitment to our families?
Each foster or resource family is assigned its own advocate. In addition to the training you will need, support will be there when a child is placed with you and your family. We have an on-call registered nurse available 24 hours a day and your advocate is there to assist you through the process of managing the child needs.
With Childkind you will get:
- Training programs and special events (with childcare)
- An On-call nurse, 24 hours per day
- Respite care
- Financial support
- Educational enrichment
- Childkind’s Family & Disability Support Services Program and its staff to help you through your service as a foster or resource parent, or as an adoptive parent as well.
